Dr Makaziwe Mandela – Black History Month

With October marking Black History Month in the UK, Dr Mandela is much in demand as a speaker. This week she was engaged by Avanade and Janus Henderson for virtual events that were very well received.

She gave insight into being the daughter of President Mandela and how it’s been important for her to carve out her own niche. She explained how being a ‘Mandela’ is a blessing but also brings pressure. Dr Mandela is a great believer in the power of the people and the ability that individuals have to bring about change and cited examples as well as giving practical advice.

In the fireside chats she also talked about why differences matter, allyship and why we need to have bold and uncomfortable conversations.

She has a busy month ahead.

John Fashanu – Dancing on Ice

A pleasure to contract football personality John Fashanu to take part in the new series of ITV’s Dancing on Ice.

He said: “I’m so excited to be a part of Dancing On Ice. I don’t think it’ll come as a surprise to people that I’m very competitive – I am definitely in it to win it.

“And this may be one of the scariest things I’ve ever signed up for but I couldn’t be more ready for the challenge.”

The upcoming series will see 11 celebrities taking to the ice in the hopes of being crowned winner and following in the fancy footwork of previous victors such as Jake Quickenden, James Jordan, Joe Swash and this year’s winner Regan Gascoigne. John is the second celebrity to be announced after soap star Patsy Palmer.

Tukwini Mandela – Snap Campaign Wins Award

Innovative thinking, exemplary execution and memorable ideas are the foundations of the creative industry, and the awards recognise and reward brilliantly exciting creativity.

Tukwini Mandela joined up with Snap to support their fantastic ‘Hidden Black Stories’ project. This was launched on the 11th February, the anniversary of when her grandfather President Mandela was released from prison in 1990.

(with input from several expert U.K. organisations including, Black Cultural Archives, Black History Walks, Mary Seacole Trust, Nubian Jak Trust, Slavery Remembrance, and 100 Great Black Britons.)

The new suite of AR experiences is part of Snap’s ongoing commitment to lend its platform to underrepresented communities and showcase the power of AR as an advocacy tool.
