David Seaman – Financial Conduct Authority (FCA)

Save like Seaman! ex-England Goalie Urges Savers to Search for Better Interest Rates

Former England and Arsenal legend, David Seaman, took on commuters in a public penalty shoot-out at London’s King’s Cross Station, as he sought to help people get more for their savings.

The ex-stopper saved a total of 16 out of 26 shots from members of the public over a 5-minute period, showing that the Premier League-winning goalie is still capable of an excellent save or two.

The former England number one took part in the public shoot-out as part of the Financial Conduct Authority’s campaign to encourage savers to shop around for a better rate for their savings.

Research by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) found only 52% of savers said that they had ever switched, or were considering switching, their savings accounts. This is despite savers, some of whom are receiving interest rates of 1%, potentially missing out on better savings deals offering more than 5% for an easy access deal and 7% for a regular saver.

Someone with £5,000 in savings on one of the lower rates available on the market could earn an extra £153-a-year by switching to one of the better rates on the market.

The FCA is encouraging savers to take advantage of a more competitive market. To help people do so, it has created a basic online calculator, enabling savers to see how much interest they could earn if they got a better rate.

“It’s been a fun time back in goal making saves. Just like in football, where things can change in just a quick 5 minutes, the same is true for choosing the right savings account. It is so swift and easy to shop around.

“Don’t let your hard-earned money sit idle when it could be working harder for you. See if you can get a better deal.”

Dr Mandela – Ford – Cape Town

Dr Mandela flew into Cape Town from her home in Johannesburg, to surprise a group of senior executives from Ford, Brazil.

50 execs were in South Africa on an incentive trip as a reward for dealers and management of the motor company. Unbeknownst to the employees, Dr Mandela surprised them at The Norval Foundation (an art gallery in the southern suburbs of Cape Town). She joined them for dinner and gave a talk speaking about South Africa, the opportunities on the continent, growing up in SA and being a ‘Mandela’. She also did a book signing.

A very memorable event for all.

David Seaman – Tom Hiddleston – Seaman Says Podcast

David’s popular weekly podcast ‘Seaman Says’, continues to bring in the BIG guests. This week, bona fide Hollywood movie star Tom Hiddleston joined David for a long chat (that could have gone on for longer!).  Tom is a massive Arsenal fan and in general loves his football. He’s also been a part of the fantastic Soccer Aid for UNICEF.

Enjoy the conversation.

An England win that the Irish didn’t see coming!
