Dr Mandela and daughter Tukwini returned to Liverpool this month for a series of events arranged by Mandela8.
After 10 years in the making, Nelson Mandela’s daughter and granddaughter officially unveiled the Mandela8 memorial in Princes Park in Liverpool on the 18th July, International Nelson Mandela Day.
The memorial bridge and classroom was an idea formed almost 10 years ago following the death of Nelson Mandela in December 2013. Dr Mandela and Tukwini, cut the ribbon at a special event attended by hundreds of people including school children.
The memorial aims to educate people about social justice and celebrating differences.
In the evening there was a private meal with a collection of local business leaders, before the ladies took to the stage at the Everyman Theatre for ‘An Audience with the Mandela Family’. This was a public event hosted by Marcus Ryder MBE.
The family also undertook a batch of media interviews before returning home to South Africa after another very well received trip.
