David Seaman & Paul Merson – Fishing Republic

To celebrate National Fishing Month, footballing legends David Seaman and Paul Merson took to the River Wye to talk all things fishing, football and friendship.

Fishing is one of the UK’s most popular pastimes, with over 900,000 people freshwater fishing each year. Reports show it’s a great activity for keeping healthy, providing benefits such as increased vitamin D, improved concentration and cardiovascular health.

England footballing legend and Fishing Republic brand ambassador David Seaman comments: “With the general pressures of life, fishing has been a great outlet for me to relax, de-stress and enjoy the many benefits of the great outdoors. A few hours of fresh air out by the water helps me to clear my head and I couldn’t recommend it enough.”

“It was great to get Paul out on the river today, to show him the ways and to talk about our times on the pitch together. The best thing about it was he caught some good fish, they were his first fish and he got to feel a strong bite.”

The two ex-England players reminisced about their time on the pitch, with Paul Merson reflecting on the time he won the FA Cup with Arsenal. The two also talked about their enjoyment of fishing, with Seaman asking if he had converted Paul Merson into a full-time angler.

Paul Merson said: “I’ve absolutely loved it. The buzz of getting a bite and bringing it in. I will definitely go fishing again, I’d need my gillie-man, David Seaman, to help me with a couple of things but I would love to go again and I will go again”.

Ben Cohen – ‘Grand Slammers’ – ITV

GamePlan client Ben Cohen has filmed a new ITV commission, Grand Slammers, which sees England rugby world cup winners tackle rugby behind bars.

Ben features alongside captain Martin Johnson, Jonny Wilkinson, Lawrence Dallaglio, Phil Vickery, Jason Robinson, Will Greenwood, Mike Tindall and Matt Dawson.

Each team member has tasted glory in their country’s finest moment on a rugby pitch, lifting the William Webb Ellis trophy.

Now those who made such an unforgettable contribution to England’s sporting history are back together for the first time two decades on from their triumph.

The sporting heroes will go to HMP The Mount prison home to one of the only remaining rugby pitches inside an adult male English prison.

There they will attempt to build and train a team of inmates strong enough to compete against a formidable rival, the Australians.

ITV described the series as offering “a vivid insight into the power of sport to change lives as the England legends open up to inmates about how rugby had a profound impact on them during formative periods and gave them a purpose in life”.

The legends experience clashes, confrontations as well as offering encouragement about how the sport could make a difference for each inmate, as they show their charges the spirit of rugby and its broad appeal with all the camaraderie, intensity, emotion, buzz and laughter that comes with being part of a team focused on a common goal, beating the Aussies.
